SQUIRREL
Wake alone in the springtime.
Look around in the meantime.
Such a peaceful, serene time.
Not a sound.
Poke your head out and take in
all you can. Now awaken
to the treasure to rake in
on the ground.
And acorns make your world go round.
Start your work. There are bound to
be a lot of them round to
gather and take them down to
store for now.
Working hard just to keep up.
Stumble over a teacup,
and a voice seems to speak up.
Wonder how...
And where the cup once stood, a lady fair and good stands now.
Lady squirrel, such a beauty
thanks you for setting her free,
leads you down to an oak tree.
Rites of spring.
(Instrumental break)
Fall winds rattle the weeping
willow as you lay sleeping.
Winter stealthily creeping.
Do you care?
Now you open the eyes that
look up to cloudy skies that
say you must realize that
she's not there.
And she's not all that's gone somewhere.
Got no food to sustain you.
Only labor to drain you,
not to mention the pain you
now must reap.
Snowflake lands on your shoulder,
and the ground's getting colder.
If you're wiser and older,
go to sleep.
And though you're not quite set, you know the snow is getting deep.
Wake alone in the springtime.
Look around in the meantime.
Such a peaceful, serene time.
Not a sound.
Poke your head out and take in
all you can. Now awaken
to the treasure to rake in
on the ground.
And acorns make your world go round.
